First Steps … will take you to our Volunteer Administration Office

Are you considering taking part in one of our trials? Our Volunteer Administration Office (Probandensekretariat) will be delighted to provide you with specific information, answer your questions and provide you with help and advice. Contact us by phone (tel. +49 (0)221 / 6472-282) to have your details entered into our volunteer database or use our Online Form to submit your application online.

Information and Transparency = Confidence and Peace of Mind
As soon as we start looking for subjects for one of our current studies , we will contact you by phone. We will provide you with a general overview of the study, including the test substance, the duration of the trial and – of course – the amount of remuneration you will receive for your participation.

Once you have decided to take part in a particular study, you will receive a written invitation. This letter will also contain a detailed list of all the dates involved, including the dates of overnight stays and all outpatient check-ups.

In a preliminary interview (briefing), our trial physician will provide you with detailed information about the substance to be tested. This discussion is a good opportunity for you to get to know more about us and our organisation. The trial physician will explain what is involved in the different stages of the trial and go through the rules you must follow before, during and after the trial. These rules relate to matters such as eating, drinking, exercise, and so on, and are important in ensuring that the results of the study are not influenced by such external factors.
You will also receive comprehensive written information. This is designed to provide you with as much information as possible about the study, enabling you to make an informed decision.

Your written consent confirms your willingness to take part in a particular clinical trial.

Last but not least, you will be asked to attend a preliminary examination. An ECG is recorded, your blood pressure and pulse are taken, and a physical examination is carried out. We will also take the first blood sample at this stage. The results of this examination will enable us to decide whether or not you would be a suitable candidate to participate in a clinical trial.

You may withdraw your consent and cancel your participation in the trial at any time without giving a reason.

The Volunteer Unit – Your Home from Home
During a clinical trial, we work closely with our volunteers. It is, therefore, very important that you feel at home here – after all, you’ll be coming here for multiple appointments. Depending on the type of study, you may also be required to spend a night or two in the Volunteer Unit. To ensure that you have plenty to do to pass the time, therefore, we have provided a variety of games, as well as billiards, a selection of newspapers, and of course radio, TV, DSL Internet access and videos/DVDs.

The study procedures will be performed by our friendly and helpful team. The test substances will be administered, blood samples taken, blood pressure measured and you may also be connected to a cardiac monitor. These main study days will be followed by further outpatient or inpatient check-ups, and the trial concludes with a follow-up examination.

Reimbursement
We will also reimburse you financially for your participation in one of our clinical trials. After all, not only do you contribute to our work and research, but you also spend a lot of time at our premises. The level of remuneration you will receive depends on the scope of the trial, and it will be paid once the trial has been completed.

To ensure your complete peace of mind, each study is also covered by an insurance policy.
